Does this look like an egg roll to you?

Kinja'd!!!

I asked for a breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs instead of a fried egg, and an egg roll. I guess saying ‘egg’ that many times confused the poor girl. At least this was only $0.50 instead of $1.89, and is probably better for me anyway.

I had an hour to kill before my next appointment and didn’t know how to fill the time, but standing around in line for 25 minutes for ‘ fast’ food took care of that problem for me...

I never ever, EVER eat fast food (or chain restaurant food #humblebrag).

But, I did make an exception as my 90 year old grandmother wanted A&W recently. We had to wait for them to bring the food out after ordering in the drive thru.

I seem to recall that years ago fast food was fast?

I find this interesting as a concept. Aside from McDonald’s core menu most fast food menus have gotten really big and complex. Bigger menus require more training and food logistics complexity.

I’ve been having a lot of fast food issues whenever we get it and all the issues with my orders have slowed my consumption rate a lot.

Chipotle had some success here for a while by keeping the menu as simple as possible until they kept on finding out their lettuce made people sick and steak couldn’t be cooked fresh any longer.

Somebody clever could come in, find other ways of food production at scale, and simplify and add lightness and make a ton of money, in the billions.

But it’s a pretty entrenched market and Mickey Ds frequently buys ALL the vegetables in the regional supply chains so it’s a hard market to penetrate.

It’s an interesting concept, if you find business logistics even remotely interesting.

Isnt an egg roll chinese food?

I do find it funny though that I will gladly eat whatever a restaurant gives me, even if it isnt what I ordered. Assuming I dont get charged more than what I got, I am happy. My girlfriend always tells me to send it back but I am just hungry and what is in front of me looks good anyways. Little different than your scenario but considering the cost was lower, I would have probably said good enough again here too lol.

Who eats an egg roll for breakfast? Are egg rolls something different where you live?

I use the Taco Bell app to save veganized versions of several menu items in my favorites for quick ordering. It’s great because that way I don’t have to try to explain that shit to a person, and I don’t even have to re-enter all my customizations. Not that I eat a ton of Taco Bell, but it’s right on my way home from the gym and if it’s late and I don’t have food ready at home, it’s a perfectly viable option for a post-workout meal.

The only thing is, when I go to the drive thru and tell them I’m picking up my mobile order, t hey’re supposed to say, “I see you’ve got a taco, burrito blah blah blah, is that correct? ” B ut with all my damn substitutions , the most they usually bother to say is, “does everything on the screen look correct?” I'm fine with this, of course. I feel bad for them with my wacky orders

Usually the kitchen workers get it right but sometimes they don’t understand how the substitutions are marked up on the receipt and I end up with random missing ingredients that I actually wanted.

Funny thing is, I never substitute, order rare menu, or do anything off grid. Sometimes I’ll order 4-5 things.

About 70% of the time, regardless of order method (app, website, drive thru, eat-in) I’ll get a fuck up. Sometimes it’s mild, sometimes it’s major, usually I’m missing something like a whole burger.

So I don’t get it, I did that job in the late 90's when it wasn’t completely a computerized idiot proof process, but then again, there might be a reason I don’t do it anymore. If I made a mistake like that at a job I’d have been mortified.

My mom has always been an infamously difficult restaurant orderer. She thinks of menu items as starting points for her to create her own meal. As a kid, it was mortifying to go to a restaurant with her, so I’ve always been a super easy restaurant customer. Going vegan complicated things a bit but I still try to make it as easy as possible on the employees.

T aco Bell has plenty of vegetarian items with dairy in them. Some things are easy enough to just ask them to hold those 1-2 dairy ingredients. T he app also let s you substitute meat for refried or black beans on any item, so I’ve got a few things like that in my favorites too. Those don't get screwed up either, usually.

The thing that caused the most confusion in the kitchen was that the app offers black beans as an additional topping on the 7 layer burrito, which comes with refried beans. I’d try to add the black beans in addition to the refried, but about half the time I’d end up with only black beans. So I’ve given up trying to diversify my bean types within the same item and instead get some things with black beans and others with refried.

Outside of that, some times I just randomly end up with completely missing ingredients, I guess because the kitchen workers were too busy trying to figure out my super long receipt and they might’ve forgotten something.

Long receipts definitely confuse them. I think they are the best with “ #1-medium-coke, and that’s it” type orders.

Too bad that going into the place to order for to go puts you at the back of the line vs drive thrus.

I wonder if we could make money by starting a chain that gets the order right more often?

I don't limit myself to certain items at certain times. It was after noon, and I was ordering a breakfast sandwich, an egg roll and some onion rings. Yeah, it's an odd mix, but what I wanted at that time...

Nah, poor girl was stressed, trying to handle the counter and handing out the orders at the noon rush. The guy before me would place his order and pay for it, then say he had another order. He was ordering for five people without telling the poor cashier what he was doing.

I hate people like that.

You want to order for several people, call it in ahead of time.

Hell I get annoyed when people get right up to the counter and say, ‘erm’. Like you’ve had plenty of time to look at the menu while in the queue , your only going to order one of three or four things you only ever order from here anyway, so move it on.

Wow. At mine, they ask if you want sauce and then reach down and grab a small handful and stick them in the bag. So anything from three to five, but if you mention two sauce flavours, you’ll get about ten pots.

I pass McDonalds everyday to and from work, it’s about 150metres from my work place, but they only do breakfasts in the morning (your a known burger joint, why aren’t you doing burgers all the time?).

I’ll get a craving for a burger or breakfast as I haven’t had one for a couple of months or four/five. So I’ll get one and it reminds me why I haven’t had one in so long and the vicious cycle starts right over.

We haven’t had a KFC for about three years in my city, so when a new drive through KFC opened, even though it’s at a silly location and difficult (traffic wise with bottlenecks, etc...), I still enjoy it so much I’ve been twice in six  weeks. I order big when I do.
